6.5 Inch Speakers Best Buy

Lightweight aerated pop paper cone with Mica blend for strength and superior bass frequency reproduction. This design adds strength and superior bass frequency reproduction. This means that midrange and bass frequencies remain very musical without the distortions that can be caused by the cone flexing. With the curvilinear design the geometry is specifically engineered for best upper band midrange response which is critical for frequencies that are responsible for vocals and acoustic instruments like piano, guitar and percussion.

WHY WE LIKE IT: The ultra-realistic sound of these speakers cannot be understated. This is in large part due to the dome tweeters used, as well as a few other features. The model also uses UV-treated foam in its manufacturing.

This is an innovative speaker that can fit just about any vehicle. It will ensure a far better sound than factory speakers can bring. It offers stiff polypropylene cones alongside UV-treated, ribbed foam surrounds. These materials surround the driver, providing a more realistic audio experience. Unfortunately, if you live in a busy area or where these speakers will be competing with a lot of external noise, you may need an amp. Otherwise, these speakers might be too quiet.

Although this might not be an issue for someone listening to a genre such as classical music, anyone who prefers to listen to genres such as house music or even hip hop may find that 6.5-inch speakers are lacking.

Coaxial car speakers (also known as full-range) are ideal for anyone working on a budget or wanting a quick and simple install. They feature a built-in tweeter and rely on subwoofers to support low to mid frequencies. Meanwhile, highs are controlled by the speaker. Coaxial speakers can be ideal if you want to replace the speakers in your car door, given their compact size and all-in-one design.

Hands down, your biggest factor in picking the right speakers is selecting a set with an RMS compatible with your amplifier. However, other considerations, such as coaxial versus component car speakers, and even materials, can all impact your experience.

Big speakers might give you the meatiest sound, but not everyone has the space, budget or inclination for a set of floorstanders. Thankfully, a small set of speakers can give you a pretty amazing listening experience.

The Elac Debut B5.2s are brilliant performers for the money. The speakers feel solid, they're unfussy about placement, and they take any music you throw at them in their stride. They have the dynamic expression, detail resolution and tonal sophistication to handle it all, and enough stretch in their abilities to get even better with a system above their natural price range. For this sort of money, they're exceptional.

We think these new Mission 770 are right up there with the very best at this price. Mission takes design inspiration from the original 770 speakers launched in the 1970s, but has improved and modernised every other element: from the cabinet design to the drivers and even new dedicated stands.

On paper, these Dali speakers tick all the boxes, but get them going and it's clear they go above and beyond a decent pair of budget bookshelf speakers. They offer a range of skills that few at this price can match.

We love a surprise like this. French speaker manufacturer Triangle has entered a tough, crowded part of the stereo speaker market - and come out with flying colours. This pair of affordable bookshelf speakers truly deserves a spot on anyone's shortlist.

The bigger brothers of those Elacs featured at the top of this page, the B6.2s are a wonderfully transparent pair of standmount speakers. Content not to colour your music with their own character, they offer a mature performance that will shine a light on the electronics in the rest of your chain.

For those who are tight on space, the choice of speakers is pretty limited. One of our favourite options in this situation is the long-running Dali Menuet range. We originally reviewed them around a decade ago and they have remained essentially unchanged since then.

These Dalis are tiny speakers, and that means bigger alternatives will invariably give more when it comes to low-end muscle, sonic authority and dynamic reach. But, when it comes to detail, agility and dynamic expression, particularly in the midrange, these are as good as it gets for the price.

These speakers do an impressive job of capturing something of an older, fuller, more easy and open style of hi-fi sound without forgetting to make the music exciting. Pair with some energetic electronics and you can buy with great confidence.

The looks of the JBL 4309 might be a little divisive, but they are fantastic bookshelf speakers that produce a punchy, dynamic and exciting sound. For the money, You'll struggle to find a pair that sound quite like the JBL 4309.

These speakers convey dynamics exceptionally well; there's an authority with large-scale shifts while low-level nuances are delivered with all the finesse you could wish for at this level. Bass is full-bodied, taut and tuneful and all the elements of a track are precisely placed in the soundstage.

Whether we're reviewing a set of bookshelf speakers that cost a few hundred pounds or a fair few thousand, our review philosophy doesn't change, and you can be sure that any five-star speakers (and particularly What Hi-Fi? Award-winning ones) will offer up a fantastic performance for the price.

Another alternative is having a waterproof portable Bluetooth speaker large enough to fill your backyard (or at least your patio) with sound. You can find these in our best portable Bluetooth speakers guide.

Next, we conducted some brand-concealed tests with three speakers at a time, using an Audio by Van Alstine AVA ABX remote-controlled switcher and Outlaw Audio Model 2200 amplifiers. We mounted the speakers side by side on large wood panels attached to the walls of the house, covered the speakers with thin black fabric, and used the AVA ABX to match the levels of the speakers to within about 0.3 decibels and select among them.

The binding posts for the speaker cables are what I consider to be the best type for outdoor speakers: heavy-duty, spring-loaded, push-button binding posts. In my experience, this type provides a more reliable connection than the five-way binding posts found on many outdoor speakers (and most indoor speakers). OSD also provides a snap-on cover to help prevent water from dripping into the speaker connections. A 70-volt version of the AP650 is available for an extra $10 to $15 a pair; this option is useful if you want to string perhaps a dozen AP650 speakers around your yard, but it requires a special 70-volt amplifier.

Despite the low price, the LU53PW speakers seem pretty rugged. There are no ports that might permit water or bugs to enter, and the powder-coated, stamped-metal mounting brackets seem plenty strong enough to support a speaker of this size and weight. Soaking an LU53PW with a garden hose seemed to have no effect on its performance. The back panel has two -20 threaded sockets for use with gimbal mounts.

A standard set of metal binding posts is provided to connect the speaker cables. A version with a black cabinet and grille, the LU53PB, is also available; inexplicably it cost about $10 more than the white version as of this writing. Unlike most other outdoor speakers, the LU53PW has tiny feet on the bottom that allow it to rest on a shelf or stand if you choose not to mount it.

Installation is simple. Just screw the brackets into the wall (easy with wood siding, eaves, or a fence post; masonry requires special drill bits and screws), connect the power supply, connect the supplied cable between the two speakers, and plug in the system.

So if you find the pendant style appealing, and the speakers will hang down, the Dayton WP65BT and the OSD Forza6 are both recommended. If you want speakers you can stake to the ground and hide in the landscaping, we recommend adding the Forza10 subwoofer (or the Dayton Audio IOSUB, which appears to be identical).

For outdoor speakers, we asked manufacturers whether the packaging and/or the products use recycled materials, and whether the packaging and the products are recyclable. The former is a big plus. The latter should be a plus, ideally, because most electronics contain many recyclable materials, but the methods of recycling these products may have their own adverse impacts.

Best Buy does offer wall and ceiling speaker installation through Geek Squad. You can consult with a Best Buy Home Expert for free to get an estimate of how much the installation will cost. Best Buy will do everything from mounting and securing the speaker, concealing the wire, organizing the cables, properly positioning the speakers, and showing you how to use them.
